Douglas studied art at University of California, Santa Barbara where he received a Bachelor or Arts degree in 1993.  He began a five-year career as a wild land firefighter, then he spent two years studying and working as a graphic designer in Northern California. He joined the US Peace Corps in 2000 and was asked to do several mural projects while stationed in Kenya.  In 2007 while he was working as a finish carpenter on a house in Mt Shasta, he was commissioned to do two oil paintings.   Shortly afterwards he began to receive commission work on various nature themes.

Douglas’s art is about conveying the mystery and often overlooked elements of nature.  He feels there is an amazing beauty and story that wants to be seen, to be witnessed and interacted with. It is as if nature itself has a story to tell if only we have the time to slow down enough to see it. Douglas’s work is about interaction with and interpretation of the natural world through light and form.

Douglas is now living in Grass Valley California and is available for commission work.
